Fantastic All-City Results!

We are excited to announce the results from this weekend’s All-City Band Auditions. The students have been preparing some difficult music and scales since the beginning of the year and performed an audition at Queens Intermediate on Saturday against other PISD students. Students in our top band are required to audition, and of the 27 students in the band, 23 made the all-city band! We are super proud of these kids and hope that you will congratulate them. Please read to the bottom for some information about some amazing kids in our Symphonic Band!

Brianna Garcia, flute (1st chair out of 43 flutes!)

Oscar Espinoza (3rd chair out of 18 tubas and he’s a 7th grader!)

Rachel Torres, Percussion

We also had nine students from our second band (Symphonic Band) who auditioned. They were not required to go, but they made the choice to work hard and get the music prepared enough that we felt they could have a successful audition. I want to congratulate Mr. Hardy and these kids for taking on this challenge! In my five years here, we have only had one other student from the second band attempt this, and to have nine says a lot about the work these kids, Mr. Hardy, and the directors at Morris Middle school (who started these kids) have put forth.

The nine students were…

Linda Pulido, Flute

Kalen Hicks, Oboe

David Lozoya, Clarinet

Jacob Montez, Horn

Oscar Garza, Trumpet

Alejandro Lopez, Trumpet

Maya Castellano, Trumpet

Raymundo De La Garza, Trombone

Emmanuel Martinez, Percussion

But wait, there’s more great news. Linda Pulido, Kalen Hicks (7th grader), and Oscar Garza all made the band! Wes and I cannot think of the last time a Symphonic band student made the All-City group.

Our students will be continuing to work and learn more music in preparation for the all-region auditions in early November. The students above will represent BHI as members of the All-City band in December as they march in the Pasadena Holiday Lighted Parade. Way to go band!
